I took a wide-array of coursework during graduate school such as: Child & Adolescent Development, Career Counseling, Group Counseling and Substance Misuse and Addictions in Schools, among others.
I applied theories and content to various projects. Below are samples and/ or descriptions of my work demonstrating my academic growth throughout the program.
CAREER PROGRAM PRESENTATION
I devised a program presentation with suggested improvements as a part of my career counseling course. These improvements encouraged individuals to view career counseling as life development which is a series of chance events which may impact a student's life in a positive or negative way. The goal of this activity is driven by the ASCA Standard for Students:Â
C:C1.6 Understand the importance of equity and access in career
choice.
WORRY JAR/BOX
This tool allows students to cope with feelings such as: anger, anxiety or any overwhelming feeling. The student writes their "worry" on a slip of paper and puts it in the worry container. The goal of the activity is driven by ASCA National Standard for Students: PS:C1.10 Learn techniques for managing stress and conflict.
COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
The standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programming (CACREP), are practiced within all of my graduate coursework. Within my substance misuse and addictions course, the CACREP standard for school counselors, "C1 - knows the theories and processes of effective counseling and wellness programs for individual students and groups of students" is one which we acquired through a collaborative group project. This project examined a research intervention, goals and objectives, target group and its effectiveness.
GROUP PORTFOLIO
In my group counseling course, we were tasked with creating a portfolio about a potential group we would implement in the k-12 setting. This project reinforces the CACREP standard in section 5: G3f, students will practice and plan techniques for personal/social counseling in school settings.
